Making “Monsters” in Gareth Edwards’ bedroom
Some weeks back I posted about the new no-budget film Monsters. Now reports are coming out that the film cost from $500,000-$750,000. I think these are all greatly exaggerated. This probably represents what the film would have cost if the handful of actors and filmmakers would have been paid their going rates. Or that now that the film has been picked up for distribution, what the filmmakers have been paid for their work as part of the distribution pick-up deal. Not a typical deal that all filmmakers should expect when making a film out of their own pocket money.
NOTE TO ASPIRING INDIE FILMMAKERS: DO NOT EXPECT THIS! YOU WILL GO BANKRUPT!!!
Here is a BBC video segment showing how Gareth Edwards created his creatures and his bedroom studio apartment where the effects were done.
Here also is a link to a Guardian U.K. newspaper story about Gareth and Monsters.
