Bonnie Gets Her iPhone
A year and a half ago my wife Bonnie’s daughter Jenna got and iPhone and has been raving about it. As a result, Bonnie has wanted one every day since.
With her old flip phone she has aimlessly wandered the west like a displaced babooska.
The one snag to all this has been that we had about that time started an account with Verizon — and iPhone had an exclusive contract with AT&T — so there was no way around this that woudn’t cost us a chunk of bread.
All of this changed, of course, in January of this year when it was announced that iPhone was expanding into the world of Verizon.
So in early March Bonnie’s cell phone finally fit the dust and I went to Verizon to upgrade to an iPhone.
While a young clerk was setting the phone up she said, “You’re going to love this phone.”
“Oh, it’s not for me,” I replied. “It’s for my wife. She’s wanted one of these for a while not.”
Two other women around me looked up at that.
“Yeah,” I continued, “She said that she’s rather have this than a ring.”
To which all the women just fawned and one of them said, “Oh, that is so sweet.”
Later, after I got home and had given Bonnie the iPhone I told her about this.
“Really? Not me. I’ll take the ring.”
“No, honey, I just said that as a joke and they — ”
“I want the ring.”
“But — there was never any ring—-”
“Shut up and give me my damn ring!”
