KCRA Midtown Farmers Market 4-27-2013

It’s been a while since I’ve done a same day news story — as both photographer and reporter — so I’m very glad to resent this latest addition.

Last weekend my Saturday was all mapped out: Do some morning news live shots, then go with KCRA morning anchor Mae Fesai to cover the grand opening of a new farmer’s market in Sacramento’s midtown neighborhood, then go on to shoot a couple more VO-SOTs (shorter stories for the anchors to read over during the newscast).

However, come Saturday morning Mae had to leave right after the morning news and the managers were very big on still having a reporter package on the farmer’s market. So the assignment desk editor asked if I could possibly do the package myself?

“Okay, but what about the other VO-SOTs?”

“If you can turn a package on this you don’t have to worry about the other stories.”

“Then I’m off to the market!”

Sacramento is big on farmer’s markets. Every day of the week there is a farmer’s market in some part of the city. Many times I’ve been to the Sunday morning market at 5th & X Streets under the highway. This new one in Sacramento’s Midtown at 2020 J Street, spread out over a couple of parking lots between 20th and 21st streets, is a welcome addition to the central downtown Sacramento area.

If I didn’t have to work on Saturdays I would probably become a regular.

It’s a great place to ride your bike to — and they even have a secure valet parking area just for bicycles.

Green vegetables and green environment — a win-win.
