“Stolen Moments” — Expanded Story — Canon 7D Film & Canon 7D TV News Story
This story is twice as long as the news story that ran on KCRA a few weeks ago. Once a month KCRA airs a news magazine program called Common Ground, which is produced by special projects producer Millicent Ozdaglar and which I put together. Unlike the regular news where stories run between one-minute-and fifteen-seconds and one-minute-and-thirty-seconds, the stories on Common Ground can run as long as they want, as long as they hold the viewers interest. This expanded version runs exactly twice as long as the news story.
A year and a half ago when I visited the set where my friend, actor-writer Anthony D’Juan (Nightbeats), was playing the lead. It was an afternoon during a week that I had off on vacation. I had taken my Canon 7D, Tokina 11-16mm lens and Sennheiser wireless and Zoom H4N. I wanted to try totally independent news shooting. To my great surprise, the crew was also shooting on the Canon 7D and recording onto a Zoom H4N.
After learning that Stolen Moments would be running in the festival I contacted Anthony, who put me in touch with director Elisabeth Nunziato to shoot some final interviews for the news and magazine stories. I shot these also with the Canon 7D, so that the story would be all-7D, both in my footage and the clips from the film.
KCRA producer Soreath Hok came with me to the interviews and shot these behind-the-scenes photos. Sorreath has been learning DSLR shooting for her own website.
Stolen Moments is now being submitted to film festivals.
