KCRA Common Ground — “Left” at St. Francis H.S.

Published On March 19, 2016 | By Mike Carroll | KCRA-TV, Mike's TV News Stories

Two weeks ago I ran a story that I reported, photographed and edited for KCRA-3 TV News about “Left”–an original musical show written by Thom Green and David Blanchard, inspired by the classic novel Lord of the Flies, and adapted for all-girls. It was an extraordinary show that I hope more high schools will stage.

I was so impressed by everything about the show, Thom and David’s writing and music, the production, the incredible output by the high school students, that I expanded the story so that it could get a bit more attention.

This is a longer version that aired on Common Ground, KCRA-3’s once-a-month magazine program, on Saturday, March 19, 2016.

I am also posted a second version — longer — which I had to cut down in order to fit into the show. (Nobody listens when I try to explain to that, “You don’t understand–Common Ground is all about me!!!!)

I am posting this longer version as a tribute to the quality of all of the artists involved in “Left.”

Really inspiring material in the website above but I would like to congratulate you on your book too.
Much content is the way BBC reporting is going though our pace is not so fast. Your final thoughts chapter has great humanity with much relevance in my area of education. I am moving in the direction of showing how video journalism has much to offer a lecturer using video in a top London university where I work
    Best Regards
