If you’ve been following the posts on this blog — which everyone should! — you’d know about the preview story I reported on last week for KCRA-TV to spread the word about the Sacramento SPCA Adopt-A-Thon held starting the following day. The goal was to open the doors for 12 hours on Friday, November 11, to adopt out 111 pets — dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, mice — into homes for the holidays. On a good day the SPCA adopts out 25-30 pets a day so this was a lofty goal. I wound up being unprecedented. A huge turn out....

Late yesterday I got these text messages from Leslie Korrine with the Sacramento SPCA: “We have been inundated. Running out of animals!! It’s been a madhouse. People lined up at 8am.” Then from me: “Did any other station do a story on this?” From Leslie: “We did Good Day and had some advertising but a lot of people are saying that they saw the story on channel 3 . I’m rushing to post this story this evening to help promote the Sacramento SPCA 11-11 adoption drive that begins tomorrow, Friday, November 11 — 11/11. On an average day the SPCA adopts out 25-35 pets a day. On Friday, 11/11, their goal is to get 111 pets into new homes. It typically costs around $100 to adopt a dog and $85 to take home a cat from the SPCA. But on Friday, 11/11, you can adopt a dog or a cat for only $11.11.
